vacation to South Africa & Mozambique
Molly Makela, 26th March 2023We absolutely loved our honeymoon and Steve did a wonderful job making our dream honeymoon a reality! It was so easy and enjoyable having all of the details figured out for us so that we could focus on soaking in all of the beauty of South Africa and Mozambique. The shining star of our trip was definitely the safari portion but other highlights include visiting the wine country with a wonderful guide, snorkeling in the coral reefs in Mozambique, and hiking up Table Mountain. Thank you Mahlantini family! We are already dreaming of our next African adventure!
Accommodation Visited
Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel and Spa
“This was a nice hotel with a great rooftop bar/restaurant! The room was fairly simple but did the job and worked well for us as we were out and about most of the time. We loved having great views of Table Mountain from the rooftop!”
Dulini Moya
“If we could give this place 10 stars we absolutely would! We have only the best things to say about every aspect of Dulini Moya. We adored every single staff member we met. They were friendly, compassionate, knowledgeable and charismatic. They stepped up and wowed us in so many ways. The lodge and rooms were STUNNING! The intimate size of the lodge was the perfect combination of getting to spend time and know others and having time to ourselves. The food was delicious. The guides and trackers were fabulous. We were sad to leave Dulini Moya and would certainly come back.”
Villa Santorini
“Villa Santorini is a stunning property. The views and beaches are untouched and beautiful. The snorkeling day was one of my highlights from the whole trip and my life. Our favorite part of this spot was the activities. We really enjoyed many of the staff members, especially our snorkeling guide and the spa ladies. It felt somewhat uncomfortable having a butler that was just for us and tending to our every need (although we loved him) and it felt like they wanted to keep all the guests separate and didn’t want us interacting with other guests which felt a bit odd and not our style. The food was good but the portions were way too big for me.
This is purely my perspective but I wish the company did more for their employees, especially employees lower on the totem pole. We provided generous tips for all of the employees but there is no expectation or guidance on tipping (like there was at Dulini Moya) which just ends up hurting the lower-level employees. I think they could learn a lot from Dulini Moya. For example, they could do an annual staff party or a day for their families to experience what they do or enjoy a day at the villa. I just wish they did more to recognize the hard work their employees put in every day and their local community.
I’m glad they are making some contributions to the school which is in need of so much and was pretty heartbreaking but worth the visit. I’m also glad I brought donations for the school and I think it would be great for Mahlatini and Santorini to encourage or at least provide clients the information on what is needed in these communities and what they could pack to donate to the local communities. I did the research myself and am so glad I brought stuff but wish I brought more.
While this villa was undeniably gorgeous and luxurious and we thoroughly enjoyed the activities we participated in (fishing, snorkeling), we would likely look at other options of places to stay if we go back to Mozambique.”
