Holiday to Zambia & Botswana

Peggy Crowley, 7th September 2023
Overall Rating:

I expected it to be the best trip of my life and I wasn't disappointed. I wasn't prepared for the closeness of the animals, but I soon got over my fear because of the competence of the guides. Ronny said his expectations were also met. We were so well taken care of that the warnings we had received regarding safety were not a concern after we arrived.

Accommodation Visited

InterContinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport

“We arrived at 9pm and left in the morning so didn't have much time here. Breakfast was very good. The meet and greet didn't show in the morning so the hotel was very flexible and the concierge gave us two bellhops and they took care of us; got our bags wrapped, took us to an electronics store and got us on our way. We liked the convenient location.”

Sindabezi Island

“At first, we didn't like the idea that we had to take a boat to our camp, but ended up enjoying the morning ride and seeing the sunrise and hippos. When we arrived at 3:15pm we had missed lunch so I had to ask for a snack which was brought to us (cheese, crackers & nuts). At the next camp we arrived around the same time and they had lunch ready for us. Our room was kept clean and the laundry done. After a day at Victoria Falls, I came back to our room to find our outside tub filled with bubbles and flowers, along with some champagne; it was just what I needed. Our guide, Ronald, was very considerate of Ronny, taking it slow since he knew he had COPD and needed frequent rest stops when we were walking around the Falls. All our chefs were exceptional, but the one on the island was my favorite. I liked that the camp was compact, the 4 tents circled the central eating area. We had internet service in our room since we were in Tent #1. The pool was not very appealing. No gift shop. The raised, lit-up deck was a romantic setting for a private dinner. We always ate separately from other guests which has its pros and cons. We fell asleep each night to the serenade of our resident hippo. We got to see the rhinos, but they were not too interesting since they just lay under a tree in a heap. Talking to the armed game wardens was interesting.”

Linyanti Ebony

“Ronnie didn't like that the wifi was down the path to the trading post, but it didn't bother me. The African night had fun entertainment, but we didn't really enjoy the native cuisine, except for dessert which was always wonderful in all camps. Riding a helicopter to one of the camps instead of going to the airport for a short plane flight was extremely convenient. I don't remember if that was to the second or third camp.”

Khwai Leadwood Camp

“The newest and nicest camp. Facilities were more comfortable, and internet service was available in the office near the central gathering area. The pool was beautiful. We got to see leopards thanks to our guide who was a great tracker. Ronnie did not like the choices of bourbon in all three camps. Bourbon drinkers beware, there is none there. Great service and great hosts in all three camps. The guides were A+++++. They made the trip outstanding.”

Staff Review

“We couldn't ask for better service. The meet and greet at Johannesburg airport was needed and appreciated.”
