Solo Trip to Botswana & Zambia

808wahine, 4th March 2013
Overall Rating:

Abu Camp....the experience exceeded all of the other camps, from the accommodations and food to the service to the elephants. The management staff was so creative in coming up with activities that was special; example: movie in the bush with hot popcorn along with our sundowners!

Countries Visited

Botswana

“The delta is the reason to visit Botswana because the landscape is so different from other parts of east Africa although you might see the same game. For this reason, visiting the Linyanti was very special. I will never forget that early morning game drive where we spotted a herd of elephants (we counted 26) coming up the river. Our guide stopped the vehicle as we watched their slow but steady advance. The older ones were large enough to be walking but the babies were swimming...what fun to see! Our guide said that they were coming from Namibia (I smiled, as I thought, "elephants without borders!"). All of a sudden, several of the elephant leaders paused and raised their trunks. They were smelling us! Immediately, they let out a cry, turned left and exited the water further down from us. Watching them as they filed past us one-by-one was a great morning starter!”

Zambia

“Don't think I saw enough of Zambia to say much about it. Victoria Falls and the great Zambesi River with all those crocs and hippos were amazing!”

Accommodation Visited

Vumbura Plains

“A lot of space and quite luxurious but this could have been in the Caribbean or any other warm weather destination. The space lacked a sense of place.”

Abu Camp

“My favorite! I could have moved into this place. The bathroom and dressing areas were spacious, elegant and comfortable. The attention to detail in both the public and private spaces were phenomenal.”

Kings Pool Camp

“I would give it a Good++ because it had an ambience that Vumbura Plains lacked. I liked the bedroom/sitting area but having the dressing room right inside the front door....where there was no inside latch....made it a little unnerving.”

“The grounds are lovely and it was nice to be able to walk around in the evening without an escort. The rooms were definitely not as lavish as the camps and the tap water not being safe to brush your teeth in was a bit of a disconnect. I mean, I was just in the bush and the water there was better than the water in the city?!”

Toka Leya Camp

“I'm not an aircon person and this place was very dependent upon aircon to make the rooms comfortable. I would have preferred a fan overhead the bed as in the other places.”

Staff Review

“A timely response with a good product was the reason I decided on Mahlatini. That's 90% of the battle.”
