Adventure Holiday to South Africa, Namibia & Botswana

Janice Lappin, 12th April 2015
Overall Rating:

This trip provided a really good mixture of wildlife, culture, scenery and city highlights. It was well planned and all aspects went smoothly.

Countries Visited

South Africa

“South Africa provided the best game viewing in private concessions, seeing all you could hope for up close. Cape Town, our other destination, had a bit of everything, amazing visit to roben Island, spectacular views from table mountain and great food and shopping at the waterfront. All this and a very pleasant climate.”

Namibia

“The scenery in namibia was just amazing, from the desert dunes to the uninterupted star gazing. A place where the desert meets the ocean and the sun casts amazing shadows. Whilst we didn't ssee all we could see of namibia what we saw provided differences, from the seafront to desert.”

Botswana

“The three areas we visited provided very different scenery. The salt pans flat with vast open spaces and the delta lush with lots of water and green vegetation. Linyanti too was very green with the vast river running through. Each area having its own amazing beauty.”

Accommodation Visited

“We had one night at the Rissington inn, the location was great, with a short drive to Kruger and our next camp. The grounds are lovely and the staff friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable, we were very fortunate to be upgraded to a two bedroom bungalow which had a privat pool, and a sitting room, all you could need. We had breakfast and dinner and both were very nice.”

Kirkman's Kamp

“Another great &beyond; property, everything you could wish for, friendly staff, great food and lovely rooms. Our game drives were great seeing a good variety of wildlife, the most memorable being a very big pack of wild dogs playing by the river. Our guide Ally was great and tried to make sure we saw as much as possible in the short time we were there (2 nights). Other sightings while there were leopard cub, lions and even a porcupine, just to mention a few. The weather was quite warm in April and air conditioners in the room very welcome.”

Ngala Tented Camp

“Ngala is a lovely tented camp with wildlife, wart hog and Impala, just grazing around the grounds. The food was lovely and the staff very attentive, nothing was too much trouble. the wildlife viewing was great, lions, lion cubs (7) playing on the dry river bed, wild dog just lazing by the water hole, huge heard of elephant drinking and playing, hyena, hippo and giraffe, all just amazingly close.”

Cape Grace, A Fairmont Managed Hotel

“This is a lovely hotel, great location, great food and very helpful staff. Everything was just perfect.”

“The rooms are quite large and right on the beach about a 15 minute walk to the city centre, very clean and comfortable. Whilst we were there in April it was quite cold, there is heating in the room but you certainly needed warm clothes. Breakfast is provided and was good. For other meals you need to head to the city centre. It is a very nice location, very different and nice for a couple of days.”

Sossusvlei Desert Lodge

“Great lodge, great staff, great rooms, great food, great experience. There is a resident astronomer who was very informative about the stars, great viewing and well worth the time. The star is gazing incredible. Breakfast and dinner in the desert, dinner by lantern light was another amazing experience as was our trip to the dunes, all made more pleasant by the staff who go to so much trouble to see you enjoy your experience. The scenery is what I went here for and it wasn't disappointing the way the sun plays across the landscape is fabulous.”

GocheGanas

“Our 2 night stay was very pleasant, the food good, the room nice and the staff pleasant. Sitting outside the main area or poolside watching the giraffe graze was a very relaxing way to spend some time. The massage too was very relaxing.”

Camp Kalahari

“I went here specifically to see the meerkats and wasn't disappointed, in fact it was greater than I expected. The meerkats, whilst still wild, were very comfortable with our presence, in fact so comfortable they take advantage to sit or stand on you to get a higher vantage point. The camp is very nice, whilst simple, providing all the comforts you need, lovely hot showers, comfortable beds and great meals. The staff are friendly and make sure you enjoy your stay there.”

Savuti Camp

“This is a well positioned camp with the main areas overlooking the river. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms very clean, large and comfortable. The food was good, although meal times were a bit different to other camps we had been in, light breakfast before morning drives them brunch when you arrived back, followed by afternoon tea prior to the afternoon drive. This did make it a long time between brunch and dinner, although afternoon tea was ample. We were very fortunate to be upgraded to a family suit which was two large rooms joined by a small walkway and quite close to the main area, very lucky. The wildlife viewing was great, the most remarkable seeing a very large pack of wild dog feeding on a kill. The only disconcerting thing was the elephants seemed quite aggressive here compared to other camps I had stayed in, which left me a little nervous.”

Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge

“This newly built lodge was quite amazing, the architect has done a great job at creating something very different.
The food here was great, had some of best afternoon teas here, thoroughly enjoyed them all, along with all the other amazing meals,.The room was lovely, large and very comfortable, nice outside sitting area and plunge pool, all overlooking the marshy waterways. Wildlife viewing too was good, lions, leopard cubs, wild dog, zebra and giraffe just to name a few. Also the beautiful sunset over the hippo pool was a great photo opportunity. The guide and tracker were both very informative, knew there stuff and made the drives very interesting.”

Staff Review

“This is my second trip to Africa organised by Jamie and this, like the first, went off without a hitch. Again Jamie organised a trip that provided a variety of things to see and do, a great mixture of camps and other stays. Jamie's attention to the small things as well as the big makes for a very memorable holiday, The proof of the service is that I came back for a second one and would do so again.”
