Honeymoon to South Africa & Mauritius

Kirkman's Kamp
“What an absolutely incredible place. We loved Kirkman's Kamp. The staff was incredible. Our ranger Joel, tracker Vusi, and butler Simon were just fantastic. We had great couples with us on our game drives. Joel said that in his 10 years working at Kirkman's this was one of the best game driving weeks he's ever had. We saw it all.... the Big 5 plus so much more. A leopard and her cub... another set of leopards mating. We saw a kill! African Wild Dogs. A herd of elephants and babies. The list goes on. For me, it was the best part of the trip. I would highly recommend Kirkman's Kamp to anyone who asked.”
Maradiva Villas, Resort and Spa
“I'll preface my comments about the Maradiva by saying the place itself was beautiful, and we loved having our individual villa. We also had fantastic weather. But our praise for the Maradiva absolutely stops there.
By the end of the trip, we were just completely fed up. The food there was, we believe, below average. Not to mention all of the waiters do not understand the half board system, which we apparently still don't. It was so bad one night we had to go to the Front Desk Manager and complain. Twice my fish was just uneatable. Moreover, what bothered me the most was the absolutely grotesque "nickel-and-diming" that goes on there. $37 USD for a club sandwich? How is that even legal? The best meal we had from our time in Mauritius was at the Bois Cheri tea factory restaurant. Our entire lunch there, great food, cost slightly less than two sandwiches from in-room dining at the Maradiva. I'm willing to overpay on for food/service because we're at a "luxury" place, but we felt that was just so beyond that pale.
The service was also was not acceptable. When you have your own villa, and it's beautiful out and they encourage you to use the pool, etc. in your villa, it's unacceptable to return from breakfast/morning activities to a villa that hasn't been made up. Moreover, the inconsistency in service was horrible. One day they cleaned at 4pm, one day it was 1pm. All while there are several people who feel the need to come in and out all day long when you're trying to relax.
There was also a complete lack of activities. We went snorkeling for free, but other than that there was little else to do. I went next door to the Sofitel to go scuba diving. One day we got a driver from the hotel and we went out to the rum factory, tea factory, the Hindu temple and sites, and zip lining at the Nature Park. That was a nice day.”
