Set in the hills just outside Kandy, in a lush forest, Santani Wellness Resort is a soul-soothing eco retreat. There are 16 Mountain View Chalets that overlook the surrounding mountain range and 4 Garden View Chalets that are designed for families with children over the age of 12. These are located near the paddy fields and tea plantations. All rooms have similarly minimalist interiors. They are simple constructions of timber and glass and take in the sweeping vistas. All rooms have a balcony. The elevated restaurant boasts extraordinary views of the dense mountains. The focus is on nutritious, wholesome food. The main drawcard is the spa which houses the country’s first hydrotherapy facilities. Expert therapists offer both Western treatments and a range of Ayurvedic practices. Yoga sessions are free and there are opportunities to go hiking in the surrounding forests and tea fields. It’s also very easy to take a day trip into Kandy to explore the spiritual canter of Sri Lanka.
