Discover Gal Oya Lodge

An eco-lodge spread across 20 acres of private jungle, Gal Oya Lodge is situated within the Gal Oya National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s most remote and least visited wilderness areas. Immersed in nature, you will spend your time enjoying jeep drives, boat safaris to watch elephants swimming and forest walks with the Vedda tribe, one of the last remaining communities of forest-dwelling, indigenous people of Sri Lanka. It is perfect for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts.

Using sustainable and locally sourced materials, the lodge is tucked away in the forest and grasslands and takes advantage of the spectacular views. There are 9 spacious, thatched bungalows and a family villa. Each with floor-to-ceiling windows, a little sitting room, an outdoor terrace, and a four-poster bed with a mosquito net. The most memorable aspect of the rooms is the alfresco bathroom, with bamboo sprouts, elephant taps and brass sinks. The camp also features a swimming pool with a mountain backdrop. You will dine either in the mezzanine restaurant or have a packed meal while on safari which will likely take place with an idyllic set up beside the river. The menu embraces international dishes as well as Sri Lankan fare, all food is simple but delicious. Spend your days exploring the park by jeep, bike or boat. You can also explore your surroundings by foot, taking in the bird life and forest sights. When not on safari you can read, sunbathe and learn about nature from the knowledgeable staff; at night, the board games and cards come out.
