This thrilling family holiday combines a city break in Cape Town with, not one, but two malaria-free safaris in South Africa's northern Waterberg region. Begin with a stay at Steenberg Hotel on the Cape's first farm, established in 1682. Situated just outside Cape Town, this location provides a country retreat whilst still within easy driving distance of the attractions of the city from Table Mountain and Robben Island to the V&A Waterfront and the beautiful beaches. The picturesque Cape Winelands region is also close at hand. You will then leave the Cape and head to Marataba Safari Lodge situated in a private Big 5 game reserve, 3 hour's drive north of Johannesburg. The family will stay in large, tented suites nestled in the bushveld with animals regularly wandering past your deck. Experience exciting family game drives as well as surprise meals out in the bush.
Yet more safari adventure awaits at the next stop, Ant's Nest Lodge, in another private game reserve not far from Marataba. It is the definition of family-friendly with free babysitting services allowing you to have dinner in adult company every night and a very flexible activity schedule to accommodate children of all ages and interests. Activities include activities such as horseriding alongside zebra, giraffe and other animals, fishing, guided walks, archery, rhino tracking and bug and spoor walks.
