When to visit the Okavango Delta
Typically, May to October is considered the best time to visit as the days are warm and dry and the Okavango Delta is in full flood. November to April is the green season when the lush landscapes and birthing animals are the drawcards for travellers, despite the rains. It's important to remember that some camps are seasonal and only operational during certain periods. Learn more about the Botswana rainy season.
How was the Okavango Delta formed?
The Okavango Delta was created when tectonic plates shifted beneath the earth, creating a basin. Over millions of years, rain and rivers filled the basin with water and sediment which created a unique inland delta ecosystem.
When does the Okavango Delta flood?
The Okavango Delta is usually in full flood between April – October. Chat with our experts to plan your trip to the Okavango Delta.
