Sri Lanka is an exotic island offering a diverse range of experiences from wildlife safaris and ancient kingdoms to palm-fringed beaches and tea-scented countryside. When you are not sun soaking on the coast, you will be wandering through temples in Kandy, climbing the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress, sipping tea in the picturesque hill country, and discovering unique wildlife in a far-flung jungle.
There are 5 stops on this honeymoon exploration starting with a stay at the water wonderland retreat Water Garden Sigiriya. It will act as a base for explorations of Sigiriya, the monkey kingdom of Polonnaruwa and the Dambulla cave temple, as well as a visit to Minneriya National Park to see elephants. Next up, Kandy, the Buddhist hill city, staying at The Kandy House. Here you will truly get to grips with the culture, enjoying a cultural dance show and cooking lesson. Not to be missed is the Temple of the Tooth housing the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Then, it’s an off-the-radar safari in the rarely-visited Gal Oya National Park. A complete digital detox, your days will be spent on boat trips, game drives and walks in search of unique wildlife such as langur, leopard, sloth bear, wild boar, water buffalo and deer. Journey next to the Hill Country, an area of beautiful mountains, rolling tea plantations and epic waterfalls, making it perfect for hiking. During your stay at Nine Skies, you will learn all about the tea production process by visiting one of the local tea factories. Any active honeymoon should end with a relaxing stay at the beach. Malabar Hill, on Sri Lanka’s south-west coast, offers villas with private infinity pools and is a serene sanctuary with nature trails, yoga, and an Ayurvedic Spa.
