Small and intimate, Solio Lodge is found in the Solio Reserve in Northern Kenya's stunning Laikipia Plateau. The lodge boasts alluring contemporary design quietly juxtaposed by touches of traditionalism, with thatched roofs and African decorations echoing Solio's heritage. The lodge is part of a private ranch and is incredibly rich with wildlife and should guests be fortunate enough they may be able to observe both black and white rhino in the wild. Fantastic views are another defining feature of the property, with guests able to enjoy vistas of Mount Kenya rising in the distance from the comfort of their rooms.
Only capable of accommodating up to 12 guests, the property's 6 rooms are very spacious with large windows to complement the view. All rooms possess a lounge area with a stylish fireplace, chic en-suite bathrooms that feature both a bath and a shower, with constant hot water and a range of toiletries. Outside guests will find decking on which to relax in-between activities and take in their surrounds. Two of the rooms are connected, ideal for families, and all are built for warmth and comfort.
For those interested in conservation, visiting the Solio Reserve is a must. The reserve has been instrumental in the survival of the critically endangered black and white rhino, with translocation operations and breeding programmes proving successful in the survival of the species. The surrounding area also offers an incredible array of activities, from helicopter flights to horse riding.
Around a 3-4 hour drive from Nairobi. Charter flights to Solio Ranch air strip or scheduled flights from Nairobi to Nanyuki are available.
Horseback riding, walking, mountain-biking, helicopter flights, spa treatments, night and day game drives and fishing trips to Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains.

Review of Solio Lodge
Laikipia may need some development. Solio was acceptable, but I would not return. The fact that it is fenced, that it has no elephants or hippos, that leopards can hide in the more remote and inaccessible areas, reduced our enjoyment. The facilities and staff were excellent, however.
