Palm lined beaches, stunning coral reefs and spectacular marine life encapsulate holidays to the Kenya Coast and islands of spectacular beauty. Mombasa is Kenya's largest coastal city and offers a considerably more relaxed tone than other east African cities - the ideal prelude to beach relaxation. Explore the winding alleyways of Old Town and the historic Fort Jesus, which is now the national museum.
Luxury beach resorts sweep along the coastline north and south of Mombasa, with Malindi, Watamu and Diani the best loved offerings. Diani Beach lies just south of Mombasa and embodies Kenya's quintessential beach imagery; the idyllic stretch of palm lined beach is popular for good reason.
Malindi's traditional seaside town aura permeates from a rich history and offers a range of excellent accommodation and sunny restaurants on the seafront. Watamu is an equally desirable option, boasting a surplus of luxury hotels and the stunning Table Bay, perhaps one of Kenya's most inviting beaches. The huge attraction in the area is the Malindi Marine National Reserve; gain the acquaintance of countless species of marine life through snorkelling and diving, sharing the coral reefs with marine turtle and whale shark.
Kenya's Lamu Island is utterly enchanting. As Kenya's oldest living town it has retained all the charm and character built up over centuries. There are no cars so donkeys are the main means of transport. Lamu is a hypnotically exotic experience, made even more enjoyable by the relaxed and welcoming attitudes of the locals. Dhow safaris can take you beyond Lamu into the surrounding archipelago, where isolated villages, ancient ruins and a few luxurious and exclusive resorts lie hidden among the islands of Manda, Siyu, Pate and Kiwayu.
