Set in the waters of Lake Malawi, Mumbo Island is an untouched tropical paradise, measuring only 1km in diameter. The island resonates the same sense of wild beauty as its arresting surrounds, offering an inviting escape from the everyday and complete indulgence in the natural world. Lake Malawi's crystal clear waters are waiting to be explored and boast some of the best fresh water diving spots in the world.
The island has never been inhabited by humans and remains much the same as it has always been, with great pains taken to ensure this is the case; Mumbo's eco-policies are very strong, with solar power and eco-architecture integral parts of the camp. Guests will find only 6 tents, one of which is designated for families. Tents are comfortable and possess eco-loos and bucket showers, a hammock is also provided and offers the perfect place to while away the hours and relax. With tents set high atop rocks guests are afforded fantastic panoramas across the lake from a large viewing deck at the front of tents.
Mumbo Island Camp is rich in activities, the majority of which area naturally based around the water. Guests can enjoy wonderful scuba diving experiences, with the camp PADI-registered and accommodation of all skill levels. Kayaking, snorkelling and exploring nature trails are also on offer.
A 3-4 hour drive from Lilongwe and a 1 hour boat transfer from Cape Maclear.
Kayaking, diving, snorkelling, birding and nature trails.
