Mvuu Lodge

Found in the Liwonde National Park, Malawi's premier game viewing destination, Mvuu Lodge is a well-appointed property with great views, friendly staff and numerous activities. On one side of the lodge guests can look out upon the Shire River while on the other they are afforded excellent views of the lush wilderness, the lodge itself is set just apart from the river on a lagoon. Boat rides to the lodge are practiced during the rainy season and are a great way for guests to acquaint themselves with the neighbouring wildlife, with hippo and crocodile sightings common, and the national park's beautiful scenery.

Accommodation is tented and very pleasant, with comfy beds, and polished wooden floors. Rooms are en-suite, with 24 hour hot water, a shower and toilet, the honeymoon tent also possesses a romantic sunken bath. Rooms are spacious, well-furnished and open out onto a veranda with great views of the lagoon, here, guests can while away the hours relaxing in the hammock in-between activities.

Liwonde National Park is currently home to a black rhino reintroduction programme and a Rhino Sanctuary. With prior arrangement and special permission guests can visit to get closer to these critically endangered creatures. A hide on site overlooks the river and is perfect for casual game viewing during the day, with various animals coming down to drink. Other facilities at the lodge include a charming lounge, swimming pool and a library, with a good collection of wildlife books.

Getting There

A 1 hour flight from Lilongwe or a 35-minute flight from Blantyre, followed by a 5 minute drive to Mvuu from the lodge airstrip.

Activities

Game drives, night drives, boating, walks with experienced guides, river safaris, and village visits.
