Holiday to Kenya
Joanne Gucciardo, 14th August 2023It was an amazing experience made extra special by everyone we came in contact with - from the lovely guides at the airport when we landed to everyone at the campsites. The Cheli and Peacock team also had everything very detailed and organized.
Accommodation Visited
Tamarind Tree Hotel
“It was a lovely hotel - clean, the rooms were spacious, and the front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. It was a short stay but very comfortable. We did not eat there as we had a big meal when we were out on a shopping excursion with Justar from Cheli and Peacock; she was wonderful.
The hotel was in a great location near Wilson Airport and in a better part of town. Also, it was not too far from the places Justar took us to. All around, there was wonderful communication regarding our flights, the time to be ready, and who would take us to the airstrips/airport.”
Elewana Kifaru House
“This was absolutely the most wonderful place. Sacha was an incredible manager, and his entire staff was so very professional, friendly, and accommodating. I loved that it was a small camp - I really felt valued by the staff. The rooms were beautiful and clean; the housekeeping staff could not do enough for you. The food was amazing - the chef came out and asked how we liked the food and if we wanted him to make something else. The main area was very comfortable, and I enjoyed chatting with Sacha and the other guests in the evening. The grounds were beautiful too.
David, our safari guide, was fabulous - funny, knowledgeable, passionate about his work, and made sure we saw everything we came for. He took the extra time to drive back to places we had been to just in case some other animals had come by. He was the best.”
Governors' Camp
“This was another lovely property - clean, with wonderful accommodations, and the general spaces (lounge, dining area) were very inviting. The staff was great - our waiter, Ricard, was so kind and helpful. Moses, our bartender, was awesome too - he always had our drinks ready as soon as we sat down. The staff always made sure we were safe around the grounds and escorted us back to our tents at night. They also made sure we were not in harm's way when animals were on the property. One morning, we had a group of elephants walking through the camp, which was great to see, and I was glad the staff was making sure we were safe.
We had two different safari drivers - Patrick was great, very engaging, and really worked to ensure we had a wonderful experience. Our other driver, Richard, did not seem too interested in sharing much with us. I was glad we only had him once.”
Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club Resort
“I have stayed at the Safari Club once before, and I knew it was a wonderful way to end the trip. The rooms and grounds are exquisite, and the food at each meal was wonderful. I was taken aback by the fact that we had to pay for water with our meals. That didn't seem right.”
Staff Review
“Stuart did a nice job in the beginning, keeping us in the loop while he was working on our itinerary and finding the best accommodations and activities. The places we stayed were wonderful, and the staff at each location could not have been more helpful. That made this trip so memorable and outstanding.
I felt that once the trip was paid for, there was a lack of follow-through and communication. A really big issue for me was that I was unaware that he could not get seat assignments for the flights on Kenya Airways for me. If I did not ask, I would have had an awful seat. Lesson learned - book my own flight. I also had to ask what amenities the rooms provided. I just think this could be done proactively. The staff at Cheli and Peacock were wonderful.”
