Desroches Island lies 230km south west of Mahe and forms part of the Amirantes Group of islands. Protected by a coral reef, this coral island is 5km long by 1.5km wide, and has 14km of immaculate white sand beaches shaded by coconut palms and casuarina trees. Desroches is the only island in the Amirantes that offers accommodation.
Desroches was named after a former French governor of Mauritius and was once a prosperous coconut plantation. The island is looked after by the Seychelles Island Development Corporation (IDC) and there is a small village on the island where local people are involved in the island protection and environmental projects. There are spectacular opportunities around the waters of Desroches for fly, bottom and deep sea fishing, while diving is also excellent with some 15 classified dive sites nearby.
There is only one resort on the island, the luxury Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island, which opened in March 2018. Boasting a mix of some 60 exclusive villas and suites, all have their own private pool or plunge pool and are set in lovely tropical gardens just metres from a sandy beach; all offer sumptuous facilities and good degrees of privacy. The villas have either 3, 4 or 5-bedrooms and provide an exclusive, secluded tropical island experience for families and friends. The one bedroom suites and villas are perfect for couples, perhaps celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary. A stay on Desroches is perfect when combined with another Seychelles island as part of a multi Seychelles island-hopping holiday.
On Desroches Island Seychelles, however, there is never a lack of things to do. Explore the island at leisure by bicycle, discovering deserted sandy beaches and perhaps stopping off for a spot of snorkelling; for a full day out, the restaurant will prepare a lunch picnic for you. The Castaway Centre can arrange various diving and fishing excursions, and there's also a Spa and kids activity centre. An interactive Discovery Centre provides a fascinating insight into the variety of fauna, flora and marine life of Desroches island.
