TheAmakhala Game Reserveis an 18 000 acre private game park located in the malaria free Eastern Cape of South Africa. It offers accommodation in a selection of 11 establishments made up of country houses, safari lodges and tented camps some of which are owner managed by the descendants of the original families who arrived here with the British settlers of 1820. The reserve is a 'Big 5' Reserve and hosts other animals such as cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and plenty of antelope species
Named in the 2011 Tatler Travel Guide as among the 101 Best Hotels in the World, the 5 star Amakhala Bush Lodge offers tented and thatched suites overlooking a watering point. Each of the five tents has an open deck with plunge pool, air conditioning (hot & cold), fire place, large oval bath and outdoor shower. There is also a splendid communal lounge and dining area with an expansive viewing deck offering magnificent views of the game-filled plains.
Approximately 1 hour drive from Port Elizabeth and approximately a 3.5 hour drive from the Garden Route.
Morning and afternoon game drives, bird watching, game spotting walks along the Bushman's river, boat cruises and canoe safaris. Visits can also be arranged to the nearby Addo Elephant National Park and the Shamwari Born Free Foundation.

We had the best time at the Bush Lodge. The staff went above and beyond to make sure that our every need was taken care of. The food was excellent, and we had many wonderful animal sightings! I would recommend this lodge to everyone!
