The Amakhala Game Reserve is an 18 000 acre private game park located in the malaria free Eastern Cape of South Africa. It offers accommodation in a selection of 11 establishments made up of country houses, safari lodges and tented camps some of which are owner managed by the descendants of the original families who arrived here with the British settlers of 1820. The reserve is a Big 5 Reserve and hosts other animals such as cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and plenty of antelope species.
Found in Amakhala, Woodbury Lodge is a property spectacularly set against a cliff, above the Bushmans River Valley and offering breath taking views of the reserve. There are 6 comfortably appointed stone and thatch sleeping lodges, each with air–conditioning and en–suite bathroom, including 2 family suites. All rooms have private decks and large bathrooms with a view over the plains. Facilities include a communal swimming pool, indoor and outdoor dining area, viewing deck and boma area.
The central camp area charms with its thatched entertainment area and provides guests with a thrilling slice of history; the camp offers views across the valley to a historical site of great importance, as the first place a dinosaur fossil was discovered in South Africa.
Approximately 1 hour drive from Port Elizabeth and approximately a 3.5 hour drive from the Garden Route.
Morning and afternoon game drives and upon request: a river cruise along the Bushman's River, Addo Elephant Back Safaris (50 min drive away) and the Gary Player signature golf course (40 min drive away).
