Stunning and remote, De Hoop Nature Reserve is set in the gorgeous Western Cape. The sprawling reserve is home to a vast array of wildlife and a wide variety of accommodation options – many of which boast distinctive Cape Dutch style. Experience a diversity of landscapes, with towering sand dunes, the waves of the Indian Ocean, the Potberg Mountains and rare fynbos plants.
A complete adventure experience, break open the binoculars and keep your eyes peeled for wading birds and some rare bird life too, including the Cape vulture. There's also the chance to see mountain zebra, baboons and eland. The reserve is famous for its whale watching and is one of the best places in the world to catch a glimpse of Southern Right whales. The protected marine area becomes alive during the winter months with these endangered gentle giants. Watch on in awe as they breach the waves and come close to the shoreline.
Activities at the reserve are seemingly endless. Exploring De Hoop is exciting and fun with quad biking, stargazing, mountain biking and a number of walking trails, including those for bird and whale watching. It's not all about outdoor pursuits however; guests at the reserve can expect vibrant culinary delights and a range of spa treatments.
Approximately a 3 hour 30 minute drive from Cape Town International Airport and around a 1 hour 20 minute drive from Swellendam.
A huge diversity of activities, ranging from whale watching to walking trails to quad biking.
