Why House is a 10-bedroomed Sri Lankan villa set in a 3-acre tropical garden near the southern beaches. Suiting both couples and families alike, it offers a home-away-from-home feel. Why House is a serene retreat overlooking tranquil rice paddies and is only a 15 minute walk (or a free 5 minute trishaw ride) to a lovely swimming beach. Galle’s coral-walled fort and the low country tea plantations are also easily accessible.
Evoking the island’s Dutch colonial past, Why House features pavilions with deep verandas and lacy fretwork. The whitewashed interiors are fresh with the cottage-cozy rooms spread out between a handful of villas and bungalows. Couples will best suit the romantic cabanas, whilst families should aim for the Main House or Garden House whose rooms interconnect. The hotel has a swimming pool, a yoga shala and a pool pavilion with a ceiling fan. It’s all about relaxation here, with plenty of places to curl up with a book. A massage can also be requested in the spa pavilion. Meals are taken in the dining pavilion, which is set in the serene gardens. The restaurant serves Sri Lankan, Asian, Nepalese and Western flavours.
