Found on the vast expanse of Lake Victoria, Rubondo Island is a unique escape to the fabled shores of this legendary stretch of water. Tucked away in the south western corner of the lake, the island offers an impressive 25,000 hectares to explore, making it the largest island national park in Africa. In the rich forest environment, birding is excellent, elephants and wild chimps can be found and butterflies provide a colourful sight.
The camp is small and intimate with only 8 hand built cottages on offer. Nicely spread out, with 10 - 20 metres between each cottage, privacy is assured. The cottages are tastefully designed; made with locally sourced materials using traditional methods.
Activities are superb, with the chance to explore the delicate eco-system and virgin forests through forest walks and special treks. The surrounding waters also hold plenty of action, providing the chance to fish for Nile perch and embark on canoe trips.
A flight into Rubondo airstrip followed by a 20 minute transfer to camp.
Forest hikes, boating safaris, game drives, nature walks, fishing, canoeing and birding.
