These rugged, soaring mountains include the UAE's highest mountain, Jebal Jais at 1,900metres high. The Hajar Mountains offer spectacular scenery with a number of wadis and hiking and mountain bike trails. The temperature here is some 10 degrees cooler than on the coast. New in 2018, and perfect for thrill-seekers, is the world's longest zip wire as officially recognised by Guinness World Records at a staggering 2 miles long, that's the length of 26 football pitches! Jebel Jaid Flight, as it will be known, drops from near the summit to a landing platform stretched across the valley some 1,300ft below. At the height of your flight you will be around 1,100ft above the ground and travel at some 75mph. In all, the journey will take you less than a couple of minutes!
Via Ferrata at Jebel Jais mountain
This new adventure product opened in November 2016. The Via Ferrata (Iron Path) is the first in a range of mountain adventure and nature products being developed in the Hajar mountains. Over 470 metres long, it has three individual routes, all offering varying degrees of difficulty. There are also three zip-lines, ranging in length from 165 feet to well over 950 feet.
There are twice daily supervised tours on the Via Ferrata: the standard course, Ledge Walk, takes about 4 hours; the middle, technical route (Middle Path) about 3.5 hours; while the higher, vertical route (Julphar Scare) takes 1.5-2 hours. Age and weight restrictions apply and all clients need to prove themselves on the standard course before tackling either of the two more technical routes.
This special itinerary takes guests by private car high up into the Hajar Mountains and to Jebel Jais, its highest peak, for a delightful, romantic picnic. With spectacular scenery, it's a natural paradise.
Seawings Seaplane flights
Experience the thrill of a take-off on water at Ras Al Khaimah and head off to Dubai for an amazing birds-eye view of all the famous sights, before landing on the water. Then it's a short car transfer for a day at the new Dubai Parks & Resorts theme park, a Bateaux dinner cruise, or a wildlife drive at Al Maha. Read more about Seawings Seaplane tours.
Al Wadi Picnics
Lasting about 4 hours, guests are taken by car to the Al Wadi Equestrian Adventure Centre for activities and a picnic.
Desert Safari with Barbecue dinner
This memorable experience takes place in the terracotta desert and includes 45 minutes dune bashing in a 4x4 vehicle, welcome drink, camel riding, sand boarding, henna painting and shisha smoking (optional!), barbecue buffet dinner, Tannoura and belly dancing.
As well as exhilarating 4x4 dune safaris, horse riding, camel treks and go-karting are also available. Guests can also experience a night under the stars and see the spectacular constellations.
Several golf courses are available for guests to challenge their golfing skills.
For something totally different, take a kayak excursion into the mangroves that extend right into the city of Ras Al Khaimah. With much wildlife, including flamingos, you won't believe you are in a city!
Culture & Heritage - City Tours
The local, friendly way of life is very much as a result of desert dwelling, seafaring and an Islamic way of life. Traditions of falconry, camel racing, art and fishing still form a key part of it and local museums and forts are a good way to get a glimpse of the heritage. Half cay or full-day tours are available.
