Etosha National Park

One of the finest game reserves of the African continent, Etosha National Park protects an area the size of Holland. The park is named after the massive pan that covers some 3100 square miles. The pan seldom contains any water as it is not river fed but dependent on rainfall.

The park offers excellent game viewing throughout the year. In the dry season thousands of animals converge to drink at the waterholes beside the pan, during the rainy season it is easy to spot wildlife when the open plains bloom with life. During the day you can easily see eland, zebra, gemsbok, black-faced impala, black and white rhino, a variety of birdlife and the occasional predator; leopard, lion and cheetah are present. At night you can observe hyenas and lions at one of the park’s floodlit waterholes. For most of the year, these waterholes are ideal places just to sit quietly observing and photographing game. Follow the rhythm of the animals: rise at dawn to watch them feed in the cool morning; relax during the midday heat and venture out again in the late afternoon. On the western side of Etosha lies the fascinating Morniga Forest, also known as the Haunted Forest, it is littered with strangely shaped Moringa trees possibly shaped by browsing herds of elephant and giraffe.
