How to plan a kosher safari holiday in Africa
The most important thing you can do is communicate your dietary requirements with your Mahlatini Travel Expert. It is crucial that you are totally open with your Travel Expert about what you cannot eat because many kosher-friendly substitutes may not be readily available where you are staying. Our luxury safari destinations are remote and many have to fly in the produce they use. So, the more information you give in advance of your journey, the better we can prepare your property for your requirements. Our Travel Experts will also be able to recommend lodges and camps that offer the best kosher-friendly safari experiences.

Angama Amboseli, Kenya
Angama Amboseli takes great pride in accommodating kosher guests from around the world in their lovely lodge in Kimana Sanctuary, Kenya’s first community-owned conservancy.
Every member of the Angama Amboseli kitchen team has completed a kosher training course and is familiar with the standards for kosher food preparation and hygiene. Ahead of the arrival of kosher guests, their Head Chef briefs the team and prepares the kitchen by reviewing permitted and forbidden ingredients, storage, and preparation methods.
Angama Mara, Kenya
Dreaming of a kosher safari in the Maasai Mara, Kenya? Bordering the Mara triangle, and with breathtaking views of Africa's Great Rift Valley, Angama Mara is ideally positioned above the ever-magnificent, game-rich Maasai Mara.
Angama Mara has a small kosher kitchen which caters for up to 12 kosher guests. This kitchen is separate from the lodge kitchen and is fully equipped to prepare kosher meals. Kosher wines are also available, and with notice and at an extra cost, Jewish guests can enjoy kosher French champagne.
Savanna Lodge, South Africa
Situated in the eminent Sabi Sands Reserve, Savanna Lodge provides guests with rich game and beautiful scenery. Lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard comprise Africa's Big 5 and most often all of them can be found within a single game drive from the lodge. With so many reasons to visit South Africa, Savanna Lodge is a great place for a kosher safari.
The Savanna Suite at Savanna Lodge has a private kosher kitchen where fresh kosher meals are prepared. If you are going as a large group and taking over the entire lodge, the main kitchen can also be made kosher.
Royal Malewane, South Africa

Kings Camp, South Africa
Kings Camp is situated in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve which borders the Kruger National Park. The camp faces an open savanna plain with a waterhole, which is frequented by a wide variety of wildlife by day and night. The reserve boasts a diversity of animal life including the Big 5 and the famous white lions.
Kings Camp has a kosher kitchen which offers top-quality Kosher meals. Whether it's a bush breakfast or dinner under the stars, all catering is supervised by a Mashiach appointed by the Beth Din Kashrut Supervisor in the fully-equipped, Beth-Din Council-certified Kings Camp Kosher kitchen. Additionally, kosher wines and beers are available.
Jabulani Lodge, South Africa
A Relais & Châteaux-accredited, 5-star luxury lodge in Kapama Private Game Reserve, Jabulani is fully equipped with a kosher kitchen. Jabulani has two dedicated kitchens strictly for kosher food: one side for dairy (Milchik) and the other for meat (Fleischik). Each kitchen is fully equipped with new, well-labelled equipment, including new plates, cutlery, and tableware.
Should guests wish, they can bring their own kosher chef to the lodge to work alongside Jabulani's Executive or Head chef. Jabulani can also provide a Rabbi (Mashgiach) if needed or you are welcome to bring your own. The kitchen will be approved by the visiting Rabbi or the head of the family staying at the lodge to ensure that it remains up to kosher standards.
Machaba Camps, Botswana
Gomoti Plains Camp, Kiri Camp, and Ngoma Safari Lodge extend a warm welcome to Jewish guests, providing freshly prepared kosher meals crafted on-site by their skilled chefs. These camps boast dedicated kitchen areas, ensuring strict separation of kosher food, cutlery, utensils, and washing facilities from the main kitchen. Every meal is meticulously prepared using Beth Din-approved products, with chefs liaising with guests daily to tailor menus to their preferences, ensuring ultimate guest satisfaction.
It's important to note that the camp's kosher offerings are tailored to suit the remote location, with only Pareve and Fish menus available. As Botswana prohibits the import of meat, kosher meat is not provided.
