Your tailor-made safari holiday to Namibia

Sundowner in Nambia Sitting on the dunes of Sossusvlei Kulala Desert Lodge Walking on dunes Sossusvlei Namibia

A 'best of' Namibia trip, this itinerary takes in the country's most famous landmarks and safari regions.

Following a recovery night in Windhoek, you will begin your approximately 5 hour drive to Sossusvlei, possibly Namibia's most spectacular and best-known attraction. Situated within the largest conservation area in Africa, the Namib-Naukluft National Park, Sossusvlei is a large, white, salt and clay pan surrounded by large red dunes. Some of the highest in the world, these dunes provide photographers with wonderful images in the morning and evening light. There is a number of attractions for the visitor to explore including Sesriem Canyon, Dune 45, Deadvlei, Hiddenvlei and Big Daddy. We also recommend a quick stop in the little settlement of Solitaire to seek out Big-Moose, the local baker who makes world-famous apple strudel!

From Sossusvlei to Swakopmund is another long drive but the town will prove a welcome relief from the desert of the Namib desert. A charming seaside town, Swakopmund retains a strong German flavour from its picturesque buildings and cobbled streets to the typical German pubs and restaurants. Adventure activities abound in the area from dune surfing and quad biking to parachuting and hot air ballooning. Cape Cross tours to the local seal colony area are also very popular.

You will now continue your journey to one of the most scenic areas of the country, Damaraland where you can immerse yourself in mountain scenery, track critically endangered black rhino, view desert elephant and uncover ancient rock art. It is well worth taking a hike up the highest mountain in Namibia, Brandberg to see the prehistoric rock paintings or taking a trip to the Bushmen engravings of Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO world heritage site. The Petrified Forest, a landscape of gigantic fossilised trees, dating back millions of years is another must-see. Early morning and sunset game drives are all part of the experience here.

Even more wildlife awaits now at the Etosha National Park, a vast dry area of wilderness where visitors can experience some of Africa's best game viewing. Protecting an area the size of Holland, Etosha National Park is home to a huge diversity of wildlife, with the chance to see incredibly rare black and white rhino along with elephant, zebra, impala, lion and many more. Etosha is famous for its waterholes, some of which are floodlit, perfect for game viewing after dark. Our itinerary divides your time in Etosha between the south and the east to maximise your time in the park and to experience its contrasting scenery on morning and afternoon/evening game drives.

To break up the journey on the way back to Windhoek you will overnight in the central highlands region. Here you will enjoy a landscape of predominantly rolling hills, with some highland and mountain areas. Most of the highlands is farmland of cattle and game farms. It's a perfect place to enjoy your last night in this incredible country.
