Charming rooms and suites, each with their own name, have a totally individual design to reflect the different cultures of Mauritius; dotted around the 12 hectare gardens, each has a terrace and outdoor shower. Standard and Superior Rooms are close to one of the Lodge's two pools; however, well worth the upgrade and totally recommended by us, are the Garden and Seaview Pool Suites for their extra space (approximately 100m2), privacy and private pools. For the ultimate, choose the exclusive 'Piton Canot' Seaview Pool Suite and you'll be rewarded with the best ocean views.

At the centre of the lodge is a lounge, TV room and library, plus the delightful restaurant and bar. The emphasis is on Mauritian cuisine using fresh local ingredients from surrounding villages as well as the sea; an á la carte dinner option is also available (payable locally). The kitchen also welcomes guests wishing to learn more about the chef's recipes! The lodge has a small wellness centre which uses products made on the island; alternatively, guests can have treatments in the privacy of their own room. Something not to be missed during your stay is to take a 5-10 minute stroll to the lodge's 'viewpoint'; you'll be treated to magnificent views over the ocean and the west coast - particularly magical at sunset.

A highlight of a stay at Lakaz Chamarel is its natural surroundings and nature. A huge diversity of walks and trails are available direct from the lodge, either with or without a guide, ranging from as little as an hour to upward of 4-5 hours. Chamarel's coloured earth's and waterfall are just an hour away on foot, or less than 30 minutes by bicycle. For the more adventurous, you could take a hike up the Black River Peak or tackle Le Morne Mountain. Alternatively, cycle down to the coast (the lodge will even come and pick you up in their 4x4 at the bottom of the main Case Noyale hill if you don't fancy the climb back!). For a trip to the beach, the lodge offers twice daily complimentary return trips to Le Morne public beach. The village of Chamarel itself is delightful and a trip to the rum distillery highly recommended!

For something a little different, we can organise 'Electro Bike Discovery Tours'. Together with a guide, these power-assisted bikes are a great way to discover the island's landscapes and to meet local inhabitants. One such tour is a half day or full day 'Chamarel Tour'. As well as visiting the Seven Coloured Earths, old sugar mills, and admiring stunning scenery, you'll also have the chance to sample local coffee and pineapples! On the full day tour, there's an exclusive rum-tasting session at the Chamarel distillery and lunch is included at a typical Mauritian restaurant. Entry fees and bike helmets are included and a safety car also travels with the group; return private car transfers are provided to/from the start & finish points. Please speak to us for further details.

For the perfect Mauritius holiday with a difference, we recommend 2 or 3 nights at Lakaz Chamarel, followed by a stay at one of our many coastal resorts. Please speak to one of our experienced teams for tailor-made recommendations.

The room really makes a difference here. We loved our private pool, with a view. The food was really good! And everyone was amazing, they truly made our stay enjoyable - from getting us coconuts, to accommodating a late check out, to dealing with the hiccup in getting our covid results.
