Set in the magnificent Kalahari Desert, Kalahari Red Dunes Lodge is an excellent gateway to this fascinating area. Embark on one of the lodge's two day treks to really get to grips with the Kalahari experience, climbing dunes and traversing valleys, or enjoy phenomenal game drives, toasting the sunset with delicious sundowners. The lodge is home to a few habituated meerkats, who are very pretty and, if you have the chance to meet them, quickly become the highlight of a stay.
The lodge boasts 12 superb canvas and thatch guest houses, all of which feature an arresting style that invites the surrounding desert inside, with interiors channeling both colour and texture. Raised above the ground on stilts, the guest houses are spaced well apart for extra privacy and feature stone tiled bathrooms and teak wood flooring.
Paved walkways and a long wooden walkway connect the guest houses to the main lodge area and are well lit if returning to a room at night. The main area is built under traditional thatch and offers a bar, terrace area to admire the sunset, a swimming pool overlooking a watering hole, free wireless and a restaurant. The main building is curiously situated over a dry lake or Vlei and is an excellent place to relax after a hard day spent exploring.
