Lekkerwater (literally meaning 'the place of good water') aims to offer an authentic beach and bush experience in a secluded setting. There are only seven rooms and each room is located on a six-kilometre stretch of private beach, complete with stunning rock pools and fish life. The spectacular vistas take centre stage in the rooms with each one fronted by floor-to-ceiling glass windows that overlook the Indian Ocean. Guests can soak up the magic every day from the small veranda. Expect the same fabulous views from the wraparound deck in the main area as well as an interactive, open kitchen which is at the heart of the lodge. The lodge likes the guests to dine, family-style, at the indoor tables or outside, feet-in-the-sand style, on the beach.
The Lekkerwater Beach Lodge is an eco-lodge with all electricity generated or sourced from solar or wind power systems. The lodge is particularly water conscious and there is a zero single use plastic policy.
The lodge also attempts to source the majority of supplies and wines from local producers.
From July to November, Southern Right whales and their offspring flock here in their hundreds from Antarctica making De Hoop the ultimate land-based marine safari. You can also expect to spot sizeable pods of dolphin and all sorts of marine life. A host of activities are on offer at the lodge but we highly recommend taking a stroll amongst the pristine sand dunes and toasting the sunset.
De Hoop Nature Reserve, approximately 3 hours' drive from Cape Town and halfway between Cape Town and Plettenberg Bay/Knysna on the world-famous Garden Route.
Land-based whale watching, bird watching, walks through the fynbos with a naturalist, informative talks on the history of the area, drives to the Potberg Mountains to see the Cape Vulture colony and marine walks into the tidal pools and caves.
