Family Holidays in Botswana

Family safaris in Botswana are easily organised and provide a fantastic experience for those families looking for something more adventurous. These family holidays are best suited for children over 10 years of age, with the exception of the Chobe National Park, most camps in Botswana only really cater for children aged 10 or older. There are exceptions and for those families with younger children wishing to visit Botswana we would advise the best lodges and would strongly suggest organising private activities.

For children aged 10 and above a safari in Botswana can be the most thrilling, memorable and educational experience. The wildlife viewing is exceptional and the many different experiences offered is sure to keep even the most impatient children in raptured silence! Many lodges employ specially trained children's guides who will design a special programme for your children to suit their ages and interests. The guide/s will interpret and explain the wonders of the African bush in a fun, easy way that will ensure all ages are touched by Africa's magic. These family programmes are specially designed to spark curiosity and interest and are exceptionally rewarding.

Family Safaris

Family friendly Camps & Lodges provide fun activities such as spoor casting, tracking and indentifying spoor, making nature cards and bush jewellery, fishing and learning how to survive in the bush. This keeps the children entertained between game activities so that Mum and Dad can have a break together too. Many of the Botswana camps have plunge pools so that the children can cool down and play under staff supervision. As well as this the camps have well stocked libraries and educational games.

Teens

Botswana for teenagers is superb. At this age they can fully appreciate and enjoy the animals and the outdoors. Guides encourage teenagers to become interested in conservation and understand the issues facing wildlife. Also it is children of this age who will most gain from interactions with the local people and learning about their cultures and traditions.

An added benefit of a family holiday in Botswana is that the country is largely a fly in destination which prevents long and boring road transfers.

The Chobe National Park is the exception in Botswana and many of the lodges are larger and very much cater for children. Many families with younger children tend to combine the Chobe with Victoria Falls on their family holidays. See our Livingstone and Chobe family safari.
