Ultimate Luxury Botswana Holiday - 6 nights

There are number of different ways to travel around Botswana. For a luxury holiday a fly-in safari is a must as it gives you the freedom to explore this vast landscape and move easily between camps. All the parks are easily accessible via air and can easily be included into a luxury safari. The Okavango Delta and the Linyanti / Savute regions offer some of the greatest wildlife viewing not only in Botswana but Africa as a whole. They offer the archetypal Botswana experience and should be the basis for any luxury safari to Botswana.

A luxury safari to Botswana is also easily combined with a stay at the magnificent Victoria Falls in Zambia at the start or end of your trip. Or if you would like something a little different you could add on a desert experience in the Kalahari or Makagadikgadi regions of Botswana. In many cases guests like the idea of a twin centre holiday and move on from Botswana to the idyllic beaches of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, Mozambique or Mauritius or enjoy a city break in Cape Town. Or as an alternative you could visit the Desert Landscapes of Namibia. What you choose is dependent on season, how much time you have on your hands and of course budget.

This sample luxury safari in Botswana, detailed below, lasts for one week and is provided as a guide. For each region we have provided a choice of accommodation to cater to individual tastes.

Jao is situated in a private concession called the Jao Reserve which flanks the Moremi Game Reserve and is located on a large, remote island in a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango Delta . With varied habitats ranging from waterways and lagoons to dry Kalahari grasslands and open floodplains, Jao Camp can offer both land and water experiences, depending on the current flood levels. Spend the next 3 days participating in the activities on offer at the camp from canoe trips, to game drives, walking, fishing and boat cruises.

Mombo Camp - renowned for having what is arguably the best big game viewing in Botswana - lies on the northern tip of Chief's Island, the largest landmass in the Okavango Delta. The sheer numbers and variety of large mammals in this area, year round, defy description: from elephant and buffalo to tiny steenbok, large numbers of herbivores are followed by their predators in equal measure: lion, leopard and cheetah. Activities at Mombo Camp mainly comprise morning and afternoon game drives in open 4x4 vehicles. Spend the next 3 days participating in the activities on offer at the camp.

Vumbura Plains is situated in a large private concession on the Northern side of the Okavango Delta. It has a huge variety of habitats, diverse wildlife and an enormous traversing area of 60 000 hectares. Vumbura Plains offers both land and water activities, principally nature viewing in varied habitats in open 4x4 vehicles, nature walks, mokoro trips and boat excursions. Whilst exploring the spectacular ecology of this area, one can enjoy close-up viewing of lion, leopard, elephant, cheetah and buffalo along with all the plains game. Birding is fabulous here with immense species diversity and mind-boggling numbers. Spend the next 3 days participating in the activities on offer at the camp.

Botswana Review

Wonderful safari, we saw more than I ever anticipated. I'm glad it's quality and not quantity in Botswana, we only ever encountered a few other safari vehicles per day.
