Day 1 - 3:

You will be met in Maun by a representative of Mahlatini who will transfer you by light aircraft to Nxai Pan National Park which adjoins the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. The landscape is largely covered by grassland and dotted with clusters of umbrella acacia trees and mopane woodland in the north. During the rains from November to April – the pans become covered in grass which is a landscape very similar to the Kalahari. Nxai pan is well known for its huge springbok population and once the rains have started, gemsbok, elephant and zebras migrate to the region. At this time zebra's come in their thousands to drop their young at Nxai Pan. Extraordinarily large herds of giraffe's can be seen with up to 30 in a group. These large herds of zebras, springbok, and wildebeest attract many predators – lion, cheetah, jackal and both spotted and the elusive brown hyena, as well as the endangered wild dog and the secretive leopard. There are large numbers of bat-eared fox and raptors that prey on the rodents and reptiles. At times, Rhino's have also been sighted. Also to be seen are the eland, greater kudu and red hartebeest. Once the rains have started – the bird life is excellent.

Spend the next 3 days simply relaxing or involved in the various activities on offer including game drives in open 4 x 4 vehicles, historical tours to Baines Baobabs and Pandamatenga Cattle Trail and walking.

Day 4 - 6:

After your morning activity and brunch you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Kwara Camp in the famous Okavango Delta. The Kwara Reserve is situated on the Northern edge of the Okavango Delta and comprises of a wide variety of habitats, ranging from the tranquil reed and papyrus lined lagoons and channels, with illala palm fringed islands, open grasslands and dense mopane woodlands. This diversity of habitat within the Kwara Reserve attracts a vast array of wildlife from big game such as elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, wild dog, cheetah and hyaena to plentiful plains game such as impala, lechwe, reedbuck, bushbuck, the shy sitatunga, sable, roan, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest and tsessebe. Kwara Camp looks over onto a large floodplain which lies adjacent to the permanent waters of the Okavango Delta. Kwara Camp offers both day and night drives in 4x4 game vehicles, the opportunity to go off road to track and find interesting wildlife, guided walks, Mekoro (dug out canoe) trips, boat trips and fishing excursions. The wide array of activities at Kwara Camp make your time there not only interesting but also allow you the unique opportunity to get to see the many interesting species of the Okavango Delta in their natural habitats.

Day 7 - 9:

After your morning activity and brunch you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Kwando Lagoon Camp in the Linyanti region of Botswana. Lagoon camp overlooks the Kwando River in the heart of the Kwando concession. The region is famous for its huge herds of Elephants and Buffalo that reach massive proportions during the winter months from June to November. The region is also well known for predators with sightings of lion, leopard and cheetah being fairly common. Lagoon Camp is also famous as one of the best places in Africa to view the rare and elusive wild dog as the dogs have denned near the camp every year of the camps existence. Lagoon Camp offers 4x4 safaris (day and night drives), the opportunity to go off road to find and track game and boat cruises on the Kwando River. Spend your next three nights enjoying all that the camp has to offer.

Day 10:
This morning after your morning activity and brunch you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Maun when your trip ends.

Botswana Review

Wonderful safari, we saw more than I ever anticipated. I'm glad it's quality and not quantity in Botswana, we only ever encountered a few other safari vehicles per day.
